About Brittany Mitchell

SavingOurOcean-Brittany

I’m Brittany Mitchell, a 17-year-old high school student residing in Florida. Growing up in close proximity to the water and the beach, I’ve spent countless hours immersed in its wonders. During my childhood, the beach was simply a playground for water activities, sandcastle building, and collecting beautiful seashells. However, as I matured, my fascination with the ocean deepened.

Driven by a growing passion, I delved into learning about various marine creatures, coral reefs, and how to responsibly engage with these living wonders. Today, as an accomplished advanced open water diver, I yearn to share the wealth of knowledge I’ve acquired over the years. My ultimate goal is to enlighten and inspire others, fostering a collective effort to preserve and protect our precious oceans.

My Reason to Contribute

It all began one day as I casually scrolled through social media like any typical teenager. To my surprise, I stumbled upon some alarming posts featuring individuals proudly clutching magnificent, large orange starfish out of the water. At first glance, one might assume that it’s common knowledge that these creatures cannot breathe when removed from their aquatic habitat. However, I soon realized that most people were unaware that starfish are, in fact, living animals.

Deeply disturbed by what I witnessed, I decided to confide in my mother about the distress it caused me to see people prioritize their content while putting these animals at risk. In response, she proposed a brilliant idea: to create a website aimed at enlightening people about the significance of our oceans and the extraordinary creatures that inhabit them. This newfound inspiration prompted me to take action and educate others on the importance of preserving our marine ecosystems.
